Happy Teeth

Date/Time: We teach 3 times a quarter, usually on Fridays from 9:00am-10:00am

Location: Conveniently partnered with Warner Elementary School!
Come help us teach dental education to elementary students for an hour! Our curriculum provides an overview of basic dental anatomy, nutrition, cavities, and how to brush and floss. These 5-12 year old students are very eager to learn about dental hygiene and are excited to see all the models and activities we bring for them! Come join us and teach interactive oral hygiene lessons to these kids!

Pre-Dentals for Smiling Seniors 

Date/Time: We visit once a quarter, usually on Fridays.
Spring Quarter dates:

Friday, 04/22 (week 4)
Friday, 05/15 (week 7)
*all are from 1:30-3:00pm

Location: Belmont Village For Senior Living located at 10475 Wilshire Boulevard
This is a great opportunity to work alongside senior citizens while doing dental related activities and board games! Volunteers will be interacting with a group of about 10 seniors and playing games such as bingo, scrabble, uno and others. We are also  planning on holding a water-coloring event. These seniors really enjoy visitors, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with them!

Meals on Wheels 

Date/Time: Monday-Friday from 10:30AM-12:30PM.
Location: 900 Hilgard Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90024
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit, community service organization that provides nutritious meals and friendship to elderly individuals who are unable to plan, shop or prepare meals for themselves due to illness disability, or advanced age. Help give back by volunteering to deliver meals to the homes of elderly individuals! You can also receive PDSOP community service credit by making holiday cards for these individuals! Thus far, PDSOP members have made cards for Halloween and Thanksgiving- stay tuned for more card-making opportunities to be announced at weekly meetings.
If interested, please email pdsop.communityservice@gmail.com by Sunday of the week before you wish to volunteer. Additionally, please make sure to sign-in to the yellow notepad when you go into the office in order to receive credit. Blood Drive

Spring Quarter Dates Come in any day!
Where: Blood and Platelet Center in Ackerman A-level
Give back to the UCLA community, donate blood, save a life, and earn community service credit for PDSOP! Come in together and have a great time donating. The UCLA Blood and Platelet Center also give out movie tickets, meal vouchers, or 4 hours of pay time if you work for UCLA. Remember to bring a photo ID and don’t forget to have a good meal beforehand.

Challah for Hunger

Date/Time: Every Wednesday from 4:00-6:00pm
Location: Hillel at UCLA, 574 Hilgard
Challah for Hunger is an organization that brings students together to bake and sell challah in order to raise money and awareness for social justice causes.
How: Don’t forget to sign in on the PDSOP sign in sheet! 

Bearing Witness

Date/Time: Winter Quarter only, Wednesdays from 12-1
Location: Hillel at UCLA, 574 Hilgard
The Bearing Witness program provides a rare opportunity for UCLA students to cross inter-generational boundaries by learning with someone who has experienced the Holocaust firsthand. Through Bearing Witness, students are paired with a Holocaust survivor over lunch sessions to learn about their lives before, after and during the Holocaust.  Participation in Bearing Witness is a quarter long commitment. PDSOP members are expected to attend every session in order to receive credit. 
How: Fill out the Bearing Witness application which is released at the end of Fall Quarter. 
***Please note that members must apply and be accepted by the Bearing Witness committee in order to receive PDSOP community service credit***

Homeless not Toothless

When: Winter Quarter only Thursday, 2/26/15
Where: Math Science 5225
Time: 6:00 pm
Homeless Not Toothless is a nonprofit organization that provides free dental care to the homeless and underserved in the Los Angels area. As an undergraduate club we help fundraise for these dental procedures.During our upcoming meeting, Dr. Jay Grossman, the founder of Homeless Not  Toothless, will be giving a presentation during our general meeting! Dr. Grossman is an esteemed general dentist, philanthropist and an amazing speaker! He will be speaking about his story and how he got to be where he is today. If you are interested in dentistry, philanthropy, or really just hearing him speak we encourage you to come out!
